Privacy Policy
Effective June 5, 2026
Light of Day is a reflective tarot and journaling app. This page describes what the current app actually stores.
Our Approach
Light of Day does not ask for personal details. Most use is anonymous or pseudonymous. We mainly use anonymous product signals, such as what spread types are used or whether a feature failed, to understand and improve the app.
What Stays in Your Browser
The journal notes you save in the Journal are stored in your browser's local storage. They are not uploaded just because you write them, and the developer cannot view them from the server. Closing a normal browser usually does not delete them, but they may be lost if you clear site data, use private browsing, switch browsers or devices, or the browser removes stored data. The app also stores small local preferences, such as theme, draw mode, saved generated spreads, and a browser-generated anonymous ID.
What the Server Stores
When you use server-backed reading features, Light of Day may save the anonymous browser ID, time, timezone, spread type, selected cards, AI response status, model/status details, and error IDs if something fails. If you type text into a reading or ask for an AI interpretation, that text may be processed so the reading can work; you should avoid entering personal information you do not want handled by the app.
How Google Sign-In Is Used
Google connection is optional. If you connect Google, Light of Day uses only the minimum Google identity needed to recognize your account and keep your app session connected. We do not store your Google password. We do not request Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar, contacts, or other Google services. We do not store Google access tokens or refresh tokens.
AI Interpretations
If you ask for an AI interpretation, the text and card details needed for that interpretation are sent from Light of Day's server to an AI model provider, such as Google Gemini or another model provider we may use later.
Do not include information in an AI request that you would not want sent to an external AI provider.
Operational Records
Light of Day may keep limited anonymous or pseudonymous operational records, such as app events, spread usage, errors, and rate-limit checks, so the service can work reliably and improve over time.
Service Providers
We do not sell user information and we do not intentionally share journal content with other people. Some information necessarily passes through the services that run requested features, such as hosting, authentication, security, and AI model providers when you ask for an AI interpretation. We may disclose information only if required by law or needed to protect the app and its users.
Your Choices
You can use Light of Day without connecting Google. You can sign out at any time. You can clear browser storage or delete local journal entries inside the app where those controls are available. For account or deletion requests, use the support contact listed on the Google consent screen or any public contact channel provided by Light of Day.
Security
Account sessions use secure cookies and server-side session records. No online service can guarantee perfect security, so please avoid saving highly sensitive personal information in readings or journal notes.
Changes
We may update this policy as Light of Day changes. If we make meaningful changes to how Google account data is used, we will update this page and, when appropriate, ask users to consent again.
This policy is intentionally plain-language. It is not a substitute for legal advice.
